Frequently
Asked Questions
What is Pivot?
The standard orientation for most computer displays is horizontal or "landscape" orientation, which is ideal for spreadsheets and computer games. However, most documents, such as word processing files and web pages, are best viewed in a vertical or "portrait" mode. Pivot lets you display a full page at a time in either portrait or landscape view.
Pivot was derived from the notion that having both options (portrait and landscape) available on your computer monitor would make better use of your computer by adapting the monitor to the type of document you are viewing. Pivot makes all orientations 0, 90, 180, 270 possible.
Why do I need it?
If you have a monitor that can pivot 90, 180, or 270 degrees, then you need Pivot to make the viewing possible. Pivot will make the appropriate on-screen adjustments so you can view your documents and web pages in either portrait or landscape mode.
If you use multiple monitors, you can have one monitor in landscape and one monitor in portrait mode or both monitors in portrait mode. Please note that multiple monitors are supported only in Windows® 2000, XP Home, XP Pro and XP x64 edition.
How do I get Pivot?
Simply go to our online store and purchase it. It is available as an electronic download or on CD-ROM. You can also try it for 30 days, at no charge.
What type of PCs and operating systems are compatible with Pivot?
Pivot is optimized for desktop PCs installed with Windows® 98SE,
ME, NT 4.0, 2000, XP Home, XP Pro and XP x64 edition operating systems. Support for notebook
PCs is being extended with each new version release of Pivot. To verify
compatibility with your notebook PC, update your graphics controller driver
to the latest version and download the Pivot trial version before
purchasing.
What software applications can I use with Pivot?
If the application runs on your operating system, it will most likely
run with Pivot. Note: Certain applications based on OpenGL® or
the Microsoft® DirectX® technologies (e.g., typically DVD video,
games and screen savers) may require switching to landscape mode.
What languages are supported by Pivot and how are they installed?
Supported languages include: English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, and Korean. Pivot automatically detects the language version of Windows® that is installed on your computer and installs the corresponding language version of Pivot. If your language version of Windows® is not currently supported, Pivot will default to English.
What requirements are there for using Pivot?
The only requirements for using Pivot are that you have a rotating monitor and a compatible PCI or AGP video card. You also must have the manufacturer's display driver installed before you can use Pivot. Note: If you are using the Windows NT® operating system, you MUST have Microsoft's® Service Pack 4 or greater installed to obtain AGP or non-English compatibility.
